Venezuela

President Maduro has been attempting to get banks to begin implementing a digital payment system due to shortage of currency in the country. His biggest aim is to get the transportation system to implement a cash-less system because of the heavy circulation of cash in that sector. Venezuela has been ravished with hyperinflation due to sanctions and governmental policies over the past 2 years. This comes on the heel of the Venezuelan government allowing businesses to operate without government intervention in order to bypass US sanctions.

Myanmar 

12 people have been killed as Myanmar security forces ramp up attacks on anti-coup protestors. The military has imposed martial law in the nation and in some regions implemented a nightly curfew. So far an estimated 140 people have died in the protests across the nation since the military took over country on February 1st.

Bolivia

President Jeanine Áñez was arrested in early this morning as part of a government’s crack down on her right-wing party. Áñez tweeted before her arrest that accusations toward her are going to begin. The government of 3-term president Morales has accused Áñez and her party were responsible for a coup that removed him from power. Áñez maintains that she is innocent and played no part in the coup, she only held the interim-president role as requested by the legislator.

Syria

Today marks the 10 year anniversary of the Syrian war. In March 2011, months after protests rocked multiple regions in the Middle East, Syrian Military began their conflict with the civilians. That has since escalated from a civil war to a multinational war which has involved the United States, Russia, Turkey, Iran and many more nations. 10 years ago, Syrians thought that Bashar Al-Assad would step down as many more before him did.
