Turkish court ruled today that it will restart indictment of those affiliated to the pro-Kurdish party (HDP) in the country. The move occurred on the same day that authorities stripped HDP legislator and human rights activist Omer Faruk Gergerlioglu of his parliamentary seat following his conviction on terrorist propaganda charges over a social media posting, according to Al-Jazeera News. The precedent of this move is based on the continuous belief by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that the political Kurdish group (HDP) is a part of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)- a group that is defined as a terrorist organization in the country. The Kurdish people have long claimed that a portion of the southern region of Turkey ancestrally belongs to them and constantly asked for an autonomous government in the area- a move Turkey has time and again shut down.
