Myanmar
Myanmar saw its bloodiest day since the coup of February 1st that saw the removal of the government leaders. 38 people have been killed on Wednesday with at least dozens more injured. Christine Burgener, the UN’s envoy on Myanmar said that she witnessed the Police firing 9mm sub-machine guns live bullets on protestors. Today’s deaths bring the tally of death since the coup to 50 people and protestors have been increasing in numbers calling for the military to step down. The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners reported that at nearly 1500 people have been detained in the last 30 days.
Palestine
The Palestinian Authority is under fire as Palestinians demand answers for why Government officials, athletes and members of the Jordanian government were vaccinated for Covid19 with the very limited 10,000 vaccines supply that they have in the country. It was reported that over 200 officials, athletes and staffers jumped the line and got their vaccines before the front-line health workers of the country. The 10,000 vaccines were mostly donated by Russia with about 2,000 coming from Israel. The West Bank is seeing high infection rates as its neighbor Israel is seeing such great results that it was ready to ship a surplus of vaccines to ally nations last week.
France and Algeria
France is finally publicly admitting that it was responsible for the murder of Algerian Lawyer Ali Boumendjel in 1957. Boumendjel was a prominent figure of the Algerian freedom movement and often spoke out against the oppressions of the French Government against the Algerian people. France ruled in Algeria for over 100 years which saw millions of Algerians dead as a result. Macron denounced the “barbaric actions” of his country while campaigning in 2017 and called the murders of the Algerian people a “crime against humanity”
US
Ain al-Asad military base in Anbar, Iraq was hit by almost a dozen rockets early on Wednesday morning. The attacks seem to be in response to the US airstrike on Iran’s military base in Syria, although no nation or group has yet to take responsibility. No one was harmed in the attacks but Biden’s administration said in a press conference that it is discussing the next plan of action.
Greece
A 6.2 magnitude earthquake hit Greece last night near the town of Larissa. Thousands are without power and many buildings collapsed but no serious injuries were reported. The military set up tents and meal at soccer fields as local officials urged people to remain outside their homes until they could be inspected.
